Allan Bachman, CFE, ACFE's education manager, displays a very rare hand-engraved National Style 2 guitar, made in 1928. It's just one member of his large vintage guitar collection (shown, in part, in the background).

Sure, it was top-notch, anti-fraud education that first attracted Allan Bachman, CFE, to the ACFE in 1993. At the time, he was working in Boston, Mass., as the director of internal audits and special projects for the Wentworth Institute of Technology. But 13 years later it would be the draw of living in the Live Music Capital of the World – Austin, Texas – that would entice this vintage-guitar-collecting music lover to accept a job as the ACFE’s education manager.

It didn’t hurt that he was already a fan of the association and he’d bought a house in Austin 11 months before he applied for the education manager job. He knew this was a unique opportunity to learn, work with people he respected, apply his skills, and live in a city he immensely enjoyed.

“Coming here was like a new lease on life in some ways,” Allan said. “I’m not in the day-to-day investigation side [of fraud examining] any more, but I am talking to subject matter experts in areas I haven’t dealt with and learning more as I do this job – about fraud and what other fraud investigators and examiners are doing. It’s just rounding out my expertise.”
