Working within the community and giving back to charity is important to the staff at ACFE headquarters. For three straight years, the ACFE's team, "Intangible Assets," participated in the BP MS 150, a two-day bicycle ride from Houston to Austin to raise awareness and funds for research for the cause, treatment and cure of multiple sclerosis.
On Sept. 26, 2016, 28 ACFE staff members, their friends and family participated in their first-annual
Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Austin, Texas. This one-day event raises funds and awareness for the breast cancer movement, celebrates breast cancer survivorship and honors those who’ve lost their battles with the disease. Team "Toned at the Top" raised $2,466 for the event.
On race day the ACFE team donned their special T-shirts (designed by Becky Plante, graphic designer at the ACFE) and gathered downtown to walk or run five kilometers in support of the charity. After the race, ACFE staff members hosted a breakfast for the participants at ACFE Headquarters.
"I can't tell you how impressed I was that in our first year of participating, our team was among top 10 fundraising teams for Austin's Komen race," says Carrie Kelly, J.D., CFE, human resources director at the ACFE. "I'm so proud of our amazing staff for their fundraising efforts."
And this event hit close to home for many of the participants. "Breast cancer touches so many people's lives, so it was great that we could come together to raise money for such a prevalent cause," says Sarah Hofmann, public information officer at the ACFE. "Being at the actual event and getting to see the survivors being honored was special since my mom is a survivor herself. Looking at how much money my coworkers and their friends and family helped raise feels awesome, and I'm so heartened that the ACFE finds ways to give back like this."
Team Toned at the Top thanks ACFE volunteers and staff donations for contributing to their first-year success. The team also thanks ACFE Founder and Chairman Dr. Joseph T. Wells, CFE, CPA, and ACFE President James D. Ratley, CFE, for funding and supporting this year's race.
