Longtime member Regent Emeritus Robert J. DiPasquale, CFE, CPA, ACFE Fellow, of Cozumel, Mexico, formerly of Tenafly, N.J., died Sept. 4, 2009. Mr. DiPasquale, a member of the ACFE since Sept. 26, 1990, was chair of the 1998-1999 ACFE Board of Regents.
“I knew Bob for 20 years,” said Joseph T. Wells, CFE, CPA, founder and Chairman of the ACFE. “He was a great member and a great Regent. But Bob DiPasquale was even a greater man. We will miss him terribly.”
Mr. DiPasquale became an ACFE Fellow in 2003 and later was a member of the ACFE Fellows Committee. The ACFE named him Certified Fraud Examiner of the Year in 2003 for “outstanding achievement in the field of fraud examination.” He also served on the ACFE’s Research Committee and the Board of Review.
He served three terms as the president of ACFE’s New Jersey Chapter and was awarded the chapter’s life achievement award for his outstanding and dedicated service.
In addition to his investigatory work, which covered a wide variety of fraud examinations, he authored numerous professional articles and lectured extensively to the legal and business communities, financial institutions, and bonding companies.
Mr. DiPasquale was retired from the CPA firm, J.H. Cohn LLP, where he specialized in fraud investigations. Thomas J. Marino, CPA, partner and chief executive officer of J.H. Cohn LLP, said, “I have known Bob for over 30 years. I don’t think anyone has been more devoted to his profession or his family. He was the consummate professional and person. He will be missed.”
A. George Sparacio, CPA, partner at J.H. Cohn and the Roseland Tax Practice director, worked with Mr. DiPasquale on due diligence assignments for many years with the firm’s predecessor.
“Bob’s good nature was always tempered with the necessary healthy skepticism required to complete the engagement,” Mr. Sparacio said. “He was always a pleasure to work with and will be sorely missed by all. I personally appreciated the counsel he afforded me in my own career path.”
“Bob was my professional partner for 18 years,” said Kenneth Arlein, CPA, CVA, partner in J.H. Cohn’s Business Investigation Services. “He was very creative and thorough in his forensic approaches. I will miss him as a colleague and a friend.”
Mr. DiPasquale is survived by his wife, April; children, Michele, Rob, Jennifer, Frank, Jamie and Winston; one grandson, Xavier; mother, Lena, and sister, Annette. At the family’s request, contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Cozumel.
